Jason `Tornado` Twist,
England International and two times Embassy World Champion, defended his 2002
World Title in style, but failed at the last hurdle in the 2003 World
Championships. He was beaten 11-7 by Chris "the Magician" Melling in the competition's quickest final in its 11 year history. The
final lasted just 45 minutes with the quickest frame taking only a breathtaking
70 seconds and the longest lasting only 5 minutes. Not much `nip and tuck`, but
what would you expect from the attacking styles of `The Magician` and `The
Tornado`.
Jason, from Ilfracombe in Devon, showed great sportsmanship and honesty by his statement that his opponent Chris had played some awesome pool. "It's always disappointing to lose, but I've been beaten by a worthy world champion," he said.
Jason's path to the final included an 8-3 win over South African David Anderson and a gripping 8-7 win over Welshman Keith Jones. He also had to battle back from being 3-0 down against Gareth Potts in the quarter final to win 9-6, and followed that with a tight 10-8 win against Phil Harrison to book his place in the final.
As part of the England squad Jason still won a trophy though, when England beat the Republic of Ireland to win the tournament's World Team Title. The championships will be shown on `Sky T.V.` and should make great viewing but you are likely to miss a few frames if you make a cup of tea during the match. These guys know how to pot!
You can learn some of Jason's techniques and coaching advice in the Blue Moon Pool Videos, and improve your own game. And if you are a member of a club you may like to organize an exhibition night with Jason, which is always excellent entertainment, and a fun evening for all Pool enthusiasts.
