Tribute to Jason Tornado` Twist, who died suddenly on May 14th 2023.

It is with great regret and sorrow to write that we have lost one of the Greatest Pool Players of our generation. Jason passed away suddenly on the 14th May 2023 aged only 55 years old.

There are many social pages writing about his outstanding career as a pool player and indeed he won so many tournaments, including the World Pool Championships twice, that we could easily fill many pages with his achievements. However, first and foremost we knew Jason as a friend. He was a person who always enjoyed life, loved his family, and who was very generous with his time for other pool enthusiasts.

In his local town of Ilfracombe it is fair to say he was, and always will be, considered a Legend. Our deepest condolences and love are sent to his family and friends at this time.

How to repair a cracked operating sleeve on a snooker extension or table rest

How to change a cracked operating sleeve on a snooker extension

Cracked operating Sleeve

Cracked operating Sleeve

It is important to know this article only applies to Blue Moon Leisure products and not to cheaper Chinese copies where sizes and threads are likely to be different. If in doubt please contact us in the first instance to discuss and we should be able to confirm before you purchase.

Some of our customers have in the past asked for a replacement blue operating sleeve because theirs has cracked. We think it is important to state that this is due mostly to the operating sleeves being over tightened or the extension being dropped. We have sold thousands of these products and we are proud to say that returns for these products are remarkably low. The ones we make for the professionals are made of exactly the same materials and it would not look good to have one of these pieces break in front of millions of T.V viewers.

At any rate, if a blue operating sleeve does break, the product is repairable if you follow these instructions. Of-course you will need to get a new operating sleeve first.

To start, you have to remove the bung from the handle. Do this carefully with an object such as a screw-driver, always be careful when using tools not to hurt yourself. If you ease it out it should come out quite easily.Remove bung

This will then reveal the three components inside that you will need to remove in order to dismantle. A steel circlip, a plastic washer, and a felt washer. (See picture below)

Inside tube

To remove the circlip you have to need to place the screwdriver in one of the two small gaps in the washer and push outwards so the circlip comes out of the slot in the black moulding. As shown below.

Remove circlip 1Remove circlip 2Remove the circlip and keep in a safe place, you will need to put this back in later. You will then need to also remove the nylon washer and the felt as shown below, which you will also need to put back.

Showing washerShowing feltThis will leave the extension tube as below, which you will then be able to slide out of the top. Take a look at the moulding on the end whilst you are doing this and you will see where the circlip has to clip back into when you put back it together.

Showing end-stopRemoving extension tubeWhen you have pulled the extension tube out you have to unscrew the cracked operating sleeve and replace with the new one. It is very important that you remove the `split collet` from inside the cracked operating sleeve and place inside the new operating sleeve. This small black moulding is the piece that grips the extension tube and it will not work without it so make sure you do not throw it away with the damaged blue operating sleeve. Place it back inside the new blue operating sleeve. see pictures below;

Well done! We now just need to do the reverse procedure to put it back together. See pictures below;

Putting the circlip back on is perhaps the most difficult part, but do as shown below and you it will go together.

Place circlip as so

If you can find a small round tube it might help to push the circlip down flat, but a screwdriver will normally do the job.

Snooker Cue extension in Sunny Akani Songsermsawad unique style

Sunny Akani using his cue extension in a new way.Is this the new way to use a snooker rest and extension?

Sunny Akani using the table rest and extensionBlue Moon Leisure have been making cue extensions for decades and you will not buy a better quality cue extension than the ones which are made by Blue Moon. Though we make them in various lengths to suit all snooker players requirements in the last couple of years the professional Sunny Akani Songsermsawad has been using his cue extension in a new technique that has had many snooker commentators discussing. Some times in sport, a player tears up the coaching book and discovers a new way of performing. Remember the Dick Fosbury who developed the Fosbury Flop? Or the golf players who started to use the Chin putter?  Well it looks like Sunny Akani has developed a new unorthodox way of using his cue extension and we can now offer you a longer extension if you also want to play your long shots in this style.

Green telescopic cue extension

We can offer this option with any cue bought from Blue Moon or can fit the extension with a joint to fit the cue you may already have providing we have the same joint in stock. Please call us or e-mail us with details of your cue so we can try to match up the joint.

Loner Blueray snooker cue extension to play in the Sunny Akani style

To distinguish this model it has been produced with a green operating sleeve. It is important that if you want it to fit into an existing snooker case that you check the dimensions available in your case. The extension is aprox’ 31 inches closed including the joint and extends further approximately 22 inches. This provides an extra total extra reach of approximately 51 inches. If you would like to purchase one of these extensions you can do so by clicking here but please remember to confirm your style of cue and joint. You can e-mail us or telephone 10217 889147.

Last posting dates and showroom visits for Xmas 2000

It has been a difficult year for us all but we are hoping to re-open our showroom some time before Xmas for our local customers and have still continued to sell our products all over the world throughout the Covid crisis. We now have our decorations up and we are ready to supply you with some great snooker and pool products, where ever you are. We are expecting a surge in on-line purchases and all postal services are likely to be busy so we advise you order a.s.a.p . It is a good time to remind customers of our last posting dates and our Xmas shutdown period.

Last postage dates.

Standard post; Carrier Hermes allows 5 working days and at this busy time of the year it is already `touch and go` as to whether orders will reach customers in time if you use our Standard service. If you are not in any particular hurry, we will still be dispatching up to Tuesday 22nd December. It could be that we are able to dispatch after this date but we are reliant on the Hermes carrier service as we have no `drop off` point in our location. We recommend that if you need any order urgently that you use our Express service. All orders received after this date will be dispatched a.s.a.p following our return on Jan 4th.

Express post; Carrier UPS will normally deliver a next day carrier service, though once again we would allow at least 2 working days (not weekends) to be sure. With this in mind we will be dispatching up to Tuesday 22nd December. Our location means however that we are one of UPS first collections and we would require sufficient time to pack the product and even in some cases make it. We recommend therefore that your order is received before 5.00 pm Monday 21st December. All orders received after this date will be dispatched a.s.a.p following our return on Jan 4th, and all Express orders will be given priority.

Showroom Visits; By appointment only, we offer local customers (and some not so local!) an opportunity to do some late Christmas shopping by visiting our showroom and choosing from our very extensive range of snooker and pool cues. We hope that providing Covid restrictions allow to accept showroom visits up to Tuesday 22nd December.

Christmas Shutdown;  After a difficult year we are looking forward and hoping to be able to spend some time over the Xmas Christmas break with our families which will start on Wednesday December 23rd and are not open on a daily basis again until Monday Jan 4th.  We understand that many customers on Christmas holidays may find the Christmas break a good opportunity to visit us so depending on family commitments we may be able to fit in one or two showroom visits. We will be going into the unit during this period but only on occasions so please contact us on 01271 889147 or e-mail sales@bluemoonleisure.com for more details.

Lastly! Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our customers, past, present and future. We appreciate your custom very much and hope that this time next year Covid will be long gone. Take care, keep safe!

Last Xmas post dates and Xmas shutdown 2019

It has taken us a while to get there, but after a busy summer decorating our shop front we have been able to put up some Xmas decorations for the first time at our new premises. However, though it seems that we have only just put them up, we are already at the point where we have to remind customers of our last posting dates and our Xmas shutdown period.

Pool and snooker cues between £50 and £100 budget

Customer question;

Hi guys, I’ve started playing english pool in my local league and I’m using an old cue I was gifted in my teens! Can you recommend a cue in the £50-£100 budget? I don’t know where to start.  Thanks in advance for your time, Rich.

Hi Rich, thanks for the e-mail, we will certainly do our best to help. First of all, where are you based? If you are local you could visit our showroom where we have hundreds of cues to choose from. Visitors need to make an appointment though so they have the showroom to themselves and can try some cues on our pool table.

We do sell our cues all over the world though so you can be sure of an excellent mail order service should you not be able to visit.

Regarding your budget, I would look firstly at our pool cue and case offers. I think it is important that you keep a cue in a good protective case and if you do not already have a case you need to decide if the case is part of your budget.

You do not state whether you prefer a cue with a mid-joint (known as 2pc cue) or a butt-joint (3/4 cue) so firstly you will have to consider this.

We do have a useful post on this website that gives some advise on buying a pool cue which you will find helpful, just click this link ” Advise on buying a pool cue“.

A cue you may not have even considered before is our Telescopic pool cues which offer excellent value for money and which we only sell direct ourselves.

There is much to consider but for your budget I would consider the following which are among our best selling 2pc cues but many of them are also available in butt-jointed format if you prefer.

Blue Flash

Arlington

Lynton

CuePlus

Cushdy Blue

Newberrry

Of-course there are many others as well, including some cheaper ones but I hope this helps and do not hesitate to contact me for more help and advise if needed.

Welcome to the Gutenberg Editor

Of Mountains & Printing Presses

The goal of this new editor is to make adding rich content to WordPress simple and enjoyable. This whole post is composed of pieces of content—somewhat similar to LEGO bricks—that you can move around and interact with. Move your cursor around and you’ll notice the different blocks light up with outlines and arrows. Press the arrows to reposition blocks quickly, without fearing about losing things in the process of copying and pasting.

What you are reading now is a text block the most basic block of all. The text block has its own controls to be moved freely around the post…

… like this one, which is right aligned.

Headings are separate blocks as well, which helps with the outline and organisation of your content.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Handling images and media with the utmost care is a primary focus of the new editor. Hopefully, you’ll find aspects of adding captions or going full-width with your pictures much easier and robust than before.

Beautiful landscape
If your theme supports it, you’ll see the “wide” button on the image toolbar. Give it a try.Gift Vouchers for snooker and pool players from Blue Moon Leuisure

Try selecting and removing or editing the caption, now you don’t have to be careful about selecting the image or other text by mistake and ruining the presentation.

The Inserter Tool

Imagine everything that WordPress can do is available to you quickly and in the same place on the interface. No need to figure out HTML tags, classes, or remember complicated shortcode syntax. That’s the spirit behind the inserter—the (+) button you’ll see around the editor—which allows you to browse all available content blocks and add them into your post. Plugins and themes are able to register their own, opening up all sort of possibilities for rich editing and publishing.

Go give it a try, you may discover things WordPress can already add into your posts that you didn’t know about. Here’s a short list of what you can currently find there:

  • Text & Headings
  • Images & Videos
  • Galleries
  • Embeds, like YouTube, Tweets, or other WordPress posts.
  • Layout blocks, like Buttons, Hero Images, Separators, etc.
  • And Lists like this one of course 🙂

Visual Editing

A huge benefit of blocks is that you can edit them in place and manipulate your content directly. Instead of having fields for editing things like the source of a quote, or the text of a button, you can directly change the content. Try editing the following quote:

The editor will endeavour to create a new page and post building experience that makes writing rich posts effortless, and has “blocks” to make it easy what today might take shortcodes, custom HTML, or “mystery meat” embed discovery.

Matt Mullenweg, 2017

The information corresponding to the source of the quote is a separate text field, similar to captions under images, so the structure of the quote is protected even if you select, modify, or remove the source. It’s always easy to add it back.

Blocks can be anything you need. For instance, you may want to add a subdued quote as part of the composition of your text, or you may prefer to display a giant stylized one. All of these options are available in the inserter.

You can change the amount of columns in your galleries by dragging a slider in the block inspector in the sidebar.

Media Rich

If you combine the new wide and full-wide alignments with galleries, you can create a very media rich layout, very quickly:

Accessibility is important — don’t forget image alt attribute

Sure, the full-wide image can be pretty big. But sometimes the image is worth it.

The above is a gallery with just two images. It’s an easier way to create visually appealing layouts, without having to deal with floats. You can also easily convert the gallery back to individual images again, by using the block switcher.

Any block can opt into these alignments. The embed block has them also, and is responsive out of the box:

You can build any block you like, static or dynamic, decorative or plain. Here’s a pullquote block:
